Your ceiling decides the simulator.
Before you compare launch monitors, measure the room: ceiling height, bay width, screen distance, and garage-door clearance. The hardware is the easy part.
Three decisions, in the right order.
- Ceiling height and swing clearance
- Garage, basement, and attic layouts
- Screen distance and bay width
- Radar vs photometric vs overhead
- Projectors, screens, mats, enclosures
- What the price difference buys
- GSPro, E6, Awesome Golf, TGC
- Subscriptions and course libraries
- Ball data you can actually use
The measurements that decide the budget.

What ceiling height do I need?
Nine feet is the common minimum for many driver swings, and 10 feet is comfortable. Measure to the lowest obstruction — the opener rail or door track, not the drywall.
Can I keep my car in the garage?
Yes, with a bay on one side and a clear path for the car. A 20 × 20 ft garage can hold a 10 × 14 ft bay and one parked car, but the door tracks and opener often decide the layout.
How much does a home simulator cost?
A budget build starts around $3,000–$5,000; a mid-range enclosure, projector, monitor, and PC runs $8,000–$15,000. The installed total, including electrical and labor, is the number to budget.
Measurements first, affiliate links second.
Every guide starts with the physical constraint: the ceiling, the bay, the screen distance, the electrical panel. We cite manufacturer documentation and label estimates as estimates.
